Synopsis<\/h2>

Une femme Indienne qui se remet d’une fausse couche revoit les films d’horreur de son enfance et remarque des parall\u00e8les troublants entre les accidents des femmes \u00e0 l’\u00e9cran et les cicatrices sur son propre corps. En \u00e9crivant des lettres \u00e0 sa m\u00e8re dont elle est s\u00e9par\u00e9e, elle fait le lien entre sa terre et son corps comme lieux de violence sexiste, brouillant les fronti\u00e8res entre la r\u00e9alit\u00e9, la m\u00e9moire et le mythe. Avec pour toile de fond les manifestations nationales contre la violence sexiste, \u2018Galan\u2019 m\u00eale un traumatisme personnel \u00e0 une critique plus large de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 indienne. Il explore la mani\u00e8re dont le corps f\u00e9minin, \u00e0 la fois sacr\u00e9 et syst\u00e9matiquement opprim\u00e9, devient un champ de bataille pour le pouvoir, la r\u00e9sistance et les r\u00e9cits culturels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Biographie<\/h2>

N\u00e9.e et \u00e9lev\u00e9.e en Inde, Mantra est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9.e de l’Universit\u00e9 de Mumbai avec une licence en litt\u00e9rature anglaise et en histoire. Ielle a r\u00e9cemment obtenu son dipl\u00f4me de Doc Nomads, un master de deux ans en r\u00e9alisation de films documentaires entre Lisbonne, Budapest et Bruxelles (2021 – 2023). Par le pass\u00e9, Mantra a collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 des productions de films de fiction ind\u00e9pendants et \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle en tant que sc\u00e9nariste et assistant r\u00e9alisateur. Leur exploration du cin\u00e9ma documentaire leur a permis d’affiner leurs comp\u00e9tences en tant que directeur de la photographie, monteur et r\u00e9alisateur. Ielle cherche \u00e0 explorer la fronti\u00e8re entre les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s cin\u00e9matographiques et tente d’utiliser les outils de la fiction pour donner vie aux fantasmes et \u00e0 l’horreur qui se cachent parmi nous. Ielle est particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ress\u00e9.e par les th\u00e8mes du corps et de la sexualit\u00e9, de sa plasticit\u00e9 et de sa substance dans notre monde actuel, et de la mani\u00e8re dont il se d\u00e9fait des illusions de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Mantra est motiv\u00e9.e par des initiatives de collaboration et souhaite construire des projets avec des personnes et des communaut\u00e9s qui partagent une vision de l’avenir \u00e0 travers l’art. Leur dernier film, Et Moi, Je Revis (Coming Back to Life) a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 pour une premi\u00e8re mondiale \u00e0 Hot Docs 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n
