Waar gaat de frequentie van een lichaam naartoe wanneer het sterft?
Als onderdeel van een reeks korte films over klimaat, rouw en hoop, onderzoekt WITHIN, FROM BELOW<\/em> de relatie tussen ons lichaam en de oceaan via geluid \u2013 vanuit zowel wetenschappelijk als metafysisch perspectief.<\/p>\n

Met de ge\u00efndustrialiseerde Belgische Noordzeekust als vertrekpunt, verweeft de film antropogene geluiden met klanken uit het kustlandschap \u2013 waaronder geluiden die voor het menselijk oor normaal onhoorbaar zijn \u2013 en sensori\u00eble beelden waarin lichamen en water samenvloeien tot vloeiende texturen.<\/p>\n

Wetenschappelijke inzichten over onderwater-geluidspollutie gaan in dialoog met transcendentale perspectieven op de helende werking van specifieke frequenties op ons lichaam \u2013 dat, net als de oceaan en al wat erin leeft, voor het grootste deel uit water bestaat.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n

Elise Guillaume (\u00b01996) is een kunstenaar en filmmaker gevestigd in Brussel. Haar interdisciplinair werk omvat film, video, geluid, fotografie en sculptuur \u2014 soms gepresenteerd als immersieve installaties. Het lichaam vormt een centraal element in haar praktijk: het wordt een drager om de onderlinge verbondenheid tussen de wezens die onze wereld bevolken te interpreteren. Elise Guillaume onderzoekt in haar werk de relaties tussen psychologische gemoedstoestanden en milieuveranderingen, waarbij ze wetenschappelijk onderzoek verweeft met persoonlijke introspectie. Ze beschouwt het intieme als een ecologische vorm, om zo nieuwe mogelijkheden te verkennen voor een hernieuwde relatie met de aarde en met elkaar.<\/p>\n

Haar werk werd internationaal gepresenteerd, onder meer in La Chapelle Jeanne d\u2019Arc Contemporary Art Centre (FR), Espace Crois\u00e9 Contemporary Art Centre (FR), de Arsenale van Veneti\u00eb (IT), Friche de la Belle de Mai (FR), LMNO Gallery (BE), Gasworks (VK), Paf Olomouc (CZ), CENTRALE for Contemporary Art (BE), Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (FR), Guardian Art Centre (CN), Imagine Science Film Festival (VS), CICA Museum (KR), KIKK Festival (BE), VIDEOFORMES Festival (FR) en Argos centre for audiovisual arts (BE), naast vele anderen.<\/p>\n

Elise Guillaume ontving steun voor haar werk, waaronder van Arts Council England, het Science New Wave Film Fund en van de European Marine Board via de EMBracing the Ocean residentie om haar project Waves of Resonance<\/em> te ontwikkelen in samenwerking met wetenschappers. Ze nam deel aan residenties op afgelegen locaties, waaronder La Wayaka Current (2018) in de Atacama-woestijn en The Arctic Circle (2023) in de eilandengroep Svalbard.<\/p>\n

Haar film Hybrid Terrains<\/em> (2021) was finalist voor de Aesthetica Art Prize 2022, won de Art Nova Prize van de ArteLaguna Art Prize en werd genomineerd voor de Prix De L\u2019Oeuvre Exp\u00e9rimentale De La Scam. In 2023 werd haar film Eventual Horizon<\/em> geselecteerd voor de shortlist van Talents Contemporains 13 van de Fondation Fran\u00e7ois Schneider.<\/p>\n

Ze gaf lezingen en workshops, onder meer bij The Sustainable Darkroom, Royal College of Art, Espace Crois\u00e9 en ESA Dunkerque\u2013Tourcoing.
