In sommige gevallen helpt de relatie tussen film en taal om technieken te benoemen die doorheen de geschiedenis en het heden van de cinematografische vorm circuleren. Maar in tegenstelling tot taal kan film niet worden opgedeeld in afzonderlijke eenheden \u2013 woorden, letters, enzovoort \u2013 en omgevormd tot een sluitend taalsysteem. Film is onlosmakelijk verbonden met het re\u00eble. Hij absorbeert en herkadert een multisensorische wereld met vele overlappende dimensies: talig, lichamelijk, technologisch, ecologisch, infrastructureel \u2013 alles met elkaar verweven op manieren die zich moeilijk laten categoriseren. De relatie tussen film en taal is dan ook niet louter een theoretisch of technisch vraagstuk, maar bepaalt fundamenteel hoe we film benaderen en hoe we zijn sociale, ecologische en politieke rol begrijpen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"974\" data-end=\"1398\">Mij werd geleerd taal te zien als d\u00e9 innovatie die de mens het duidelijkst onderscheidt van zijn omgeving. Tegenover deze gangbare opvatting stelt David Abram in zijn inmiddels klassieke boek <em data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1193\">The Spell of the Sensuous<\/em> (1996) een brede historische en filosofische analyse van vroege taalsystemen, waarin hij precies het omgekeerde betoogt: taal is het middel waardoor de omgeving via het menselijk lichaam tot spreken komt.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1400\" data-end=\"2110\">Deze Focus onderzoekt Abrams stelling als een diep cinematografisch probleem. Aan de hand van zowel hedendaags als historisch werk verkennen we film als een vorm van ecologische expressie. Dat doen we echter zonder een ge\u00efdealiseerd beeld van belichaming en toeval. Film ontstond immers als de technologie bij uitstek van de industri\u00eble moderniteit en ontwikkelde zich verder op het woelige grensvlak tussen lichaam en omgeving. Juist daarom is film bijzonder geschikt om de postindustri\u00eble ervaring van plaats te tonen, waarin voortdurende breuken, vervreemding, toe-eigening, imitatie en verplaatsing van de werkelijkheid allemaal meespelen in het vormgeven van wat wij als \u2018het re\u00eble\u2019 ervaren.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<section id=\"sic-regular-text-block_763888efe70b0c7bfaf9f16e7385e120\"
