    Program

In this master class, Bo Wang will present his film An Asian Ghost Story (2023). The film will serve as a departure point to explore the potential of speculative documentary practice.  Drawing upon Wang’s extensive body of work in the past decade, which often took Hong Kong as a focal point, participants are invited to explore various challenges of researching the invisible and the “unfilmable”: the spectral forces of history, the emotional trauma that resists direct depiction, and the invisible system of power and capital that shape urban experiences, etc. Putting these discussions in dialogue with the moving image medium’s inherent haunted nature, we will collectively investigate how cinema can become a crucial site for unveiling and confronting the invisible architectures of contemporary life.
