My mother was born in South Korea but she didn’t grow up there. Adopted in France at the age of 4, she has never returned to her native country and doesn’t talk about it either. She has often told me « it’s my story, not yours ».

I’m part of the second generation of adoption, the one that inherits information often partially or tabooed. But beyond her personal story, which other stories do I descend from ? 

Maïté Minh Tâm JEANNOLIN is a French-Korean artist based in Brussels. Her practice includes dance, performance, video, photography and curating. She has worked with various choreographers and also visual and multimedia artists with whom she co-directed or participated in video, film and installation projects. In 2015, she co-created with Charlotte Marchal and Justine François, Coupé Décalé, a Brussels curation collective crossing the fields of performance, cinema and academic research (social sciences, philosophy, art history, neuroscience…). 

Ma mère est née en Corée du Sud mais elle n’y a pas grandi. Adoptée en France à l’âge de 4 ans, elle n’est jamais retournée dans son pays natal et n’en parle pas non plus. Elle m’a souvent dit « c’est mon histoire, pas la tienne ».

Je fais partie de la deuxième génération de l’adoption, celle qui hérite d’informations souvent partiellement ou taboues. Mais au-delà de son histoire personnelle, de quelles autres histoires suis-je issu ?

Maïté Minh Tâm JEANNOLIN est une artiste franco-coréenne basée à Bruxelles. Sa pratique comprend la danse, la performance, la vidéo, la photographie. Elle a travaillé avec divers chorégraphes mais aussi avec des artistes visuels et multimédias avec lesquels elle a co-réalisé ou participé à des projets de vidéo, de film et d’installation. En 2015, elle co-crée avec Charlotte Marchal et Justine François, Coupé Décalé, un collectif de curation bruxellois croisant les domaines de la performance, du cinéma et de la recherche académique (sciences sociales, philosophie, histoire de l’art, neurosciences…).
