Biography
Eva van Tongeren is a visual artist working mainly in film and video. She is a LUCA School of Arts graduate and, since 2016, runs Visite Festival, a collage of experimental documentary and political cinema. She most recently joined the curating team of Courtisane and handles the distribution of Auguste Orts productions.
In her own artistic practice, Eva incorporates her social and anthropological interests into personal histories and universal themes. While her cinematic works vary in form, they connect through the shared subject of caring. For her, film functions as a medium for sharing images and experiences, while insisting on the right to distance and disagreement. Her works are courageous journeys along the limits of what can be said, shown and comprehended, they are not only emotional but long learning processes that evoke many questions of self-criticality. What are the limits of using things sorted as private within a public context such as art-making?
