Synopsis

Without being romantically involved, Kim married Anyuta in 2018, who was at the time in need of a Belgian residence permit. Originating from Russia, she didn’t want to return and marriage seemed the only option. Kim, who was a co-student at art school at the time, wanted to help out. 

Biographies

Kim Snauwaert (1986, Belgium) is a theater academic, performer and transdisciplinary artist. She also played the lead role in Anke Blondé’s debut, The Best of Dorien B. This film opened the 2019 Ostend Film Festival and was screened at international film festivals. Her own work is situated at the intersection between the personal, the political and ethics, and consists of visual installations, video work and performative interventions. She was also a guest lecturer at UGent.

Anyuta Wiazemsky Snauwaert is a multidisciplinary artist working in the visual arts, theater, and participatory art sphere. Their works revolve around the theme of intimacy, exploring it from various angles by delving deep into their own psyche, sharing personal experiences until they no longer feel intimate, or creating a sense of intimacy within the works themselves.
They draw inspiration from artists like Cindy Sherman, Tracey Emin, Sophie Calle, and Martha Rosier.
Collaboration is a vital part of their practice, and they work alongside their life partner, Kim Snauwaert, under the name BETWEEN US, emphasising generosity, social involvement, and empathy in their artistic endeavours.
Their work has been presented by organisations such as Kaaitheater, KAAP, and the Red Star Line Museum, encompassing installations, performances, participatory projects, and lectures.
