Synopsis
Plants, insects, soil and human traces converge in this portrait of Belgian landscapes. After reading about a scientist who devoted his life to studying the biodiversity of a single square meter, I take a step outside and begin to look down at the ground.
Walking through fields, roadsides and forest edges, I observe the subtleties of my environment: small forms of life, marks of passage, subtle traces in the soil. The film follows these repeated acts of watching, waiting and searching, sometimes finding, sometimes naming. It meditates on attention and proximity, and on what begins to emerge when we pause to look at the landscape directly in front of our feet.
