Weight of Breath
by Roya Keshavarz
synopsis
Weight of Breath is a documentary tracing the emotional and physical journey of an Iranian mother and artist who fled to Belgium to save her newborn son diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Through trauma, exile, and ultimately resistance, she grapples with the loss of identity, memory, and home. Interweaving live-action, hand-sculpted clay cities, and animated drawings, the film shows her attempt to rebuild a fragmented life and explore how motherhood, political violence, and survival reshape her art and mind. It’s a search for agency and control through creation.
