Ordinary Racism
by Anna Lawan
synopsis
Melissa is an actress specialising in dubbing, yet she is only offered certain roles. Sarra is a journalist, but her profile is the opposite of the one that fills editorial offices. Anna, now a cameraman-editor, is trying to put into words an unease that she has found hard to define. As well as working in the audiovisual world, all three have one thing in common: they are not white.
biography
Of Franco-Nigerian origin, Anna grew up in Niger, a little-known country. After studying biology in Reims, she went to Réunion Island to do a Master’s degree in communications. It was by chance that she ended up in Belgium. For many years she was a cultural journalist on regional television in Tournai. After a period of soul-searching, she now is a cameraman-editor for a Belgian national media. As a freelancer, she also works on projects for associations and the arts. She’s wanted to make a documentary for a long time, but didn’t dare to do so yet.
